Dr. Leonid A. Gavrilov – Biographical Sketch

Dr. Leonid A. Gavrilov is an expert in biodemographic studies of human aging, mortality and longevity.  Dr. Gavrilov has 20 years of professional experience in this area of research and published more than 50 scientific papers on related topics in collaboration with Dr. Natalia S. Gavrilova.  Their book ‘The Biology of Life Span: A Quantitative approach’ is favorably reviewed by dozens of scientific journals, including the Journal of the Institute of Actuaries, and is cited as recommended reference by Encyclopedia Britannica.  Dr. Gavrilov is the founder of a new reliability theory of aging and longevity published recently by the Journal of Theoretical Biology.  His scientific biography is published in Who’sWho in America-2002 by Marquis Who’s Who.

Dr. Gavrilov is the Principal Investigator of several award-winning research projects, funded by the International Science Foundation, European Union (INTAS program), the U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF) and by the U.S. National Institute on Aging (Independent Scientist Award).  Dr. Gavrilov is an Editorial Board Member of the scientific peer-reviewed Journal of Anti-Aging Medicine (Mary Ann Liebert, Inc.).  He is an invited expert (peer reviewer) for 15 scientific journals, including Demography, Journal of Theoretical Biology, and Mathematical Population Studies.  He also acted as Expert for the National Institute on Aging as well as for the National Research Council at the National Academy of Sciences.  Dr. Gavrilov is an active member of 4 professional scientific societies, including International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP), Population Association of America (PAA), Gerontological Society of America (GSA) and Social Science and History Association (SSHA).  He is an invited author in a number of publication projects, including the Macmillan Encyclopedia of Aging (forthcoming), the Springer book “Sex and Longevity”, special issue of ‘Population’ journal on biodemography of aging, and special issue of the Journal of Theoretical Biology on aging theories.
